Empanadas

I have decided that I am going to make empanadas at some point in the near future. I see them on TV looking so fine with their GBD appearance and after trying Tony's, I think I want to see what the process will be like. I plan to look through plenty of recipes and hope to find one that uses curry - or to get enough idea of software to make my own savory filling. Why curry? I bought some curry from The Spice House [ www.thespicehouse.com ] and I want to use it. It makes me smile to have good quality spices to use. I'll post pictures when I am done. No chance of having a taste test, so I'll have to guess.

I have read that Argentinian empanadas are filled with many things but that in several regions, goat meat is popular. I'd probably have to look around for goat meat here in the greater Baltimore/DC region. I'll likely stick with pork for now. Goats later.

The only problem I see with trying things like this is when it calls for unusual ingredients. I hate wasting food (look at the size of me...go fig, right?) so it is preferable to buy stuff I will use. What do you do with unused software that is only required for special situations? I need to find a store that sells in small quantities.

Speaking of finding...I am on the hunt for a fish monger. I need (want) catfish.

Salad tonight. I had leftover spaghetti at lunch and have been pretty full ever since. Need to have something to keep me from snacking but that isn't heavy.

Here goes something...

I really haven't a clue what I will write about in a consistent fashion. I may rant, I may opine and I may just chortle in a public forum. I suspect that there will be replies at some point, which is fine, but I hope people understand that if there is abusive language or insulting of any opinions or thoughts on here, I will delete the comments. I find myself growing more and more weary of mindless insulting of others' thinking and opinions.

Having said that - I have spent the last two weekends baking and goofing on the computer. It is odd to have nothing to do but work and .... wait until work the following day. I find that I am having a difficulty resolving in my mind what to do with myself. I am enjoying the time in the kitchen though. I have made several things that I intend to farm out to others to keep me from becoming the size of a Mack truck (to go along with my subtlety). I simply enjoy the process so much. Not a fan of the clean up but whaddya do?

This week will hopefully be of interest at work. I am liking the new gig.

I'm about tired of people bashing on President Bush. It seems to have turned into a semi-national past time. While I must say that much of what I know is bits and dabs gleaned off the various "news" outlets, I don't think that he was the bastion of evil that he is made out to be by so many. The Bush administration made some significant mistakes no doubt, but to completely deride a man so completely when one has NO clue what that Office really is simply is unreasonable. Even Obama, best of luck to him, had no clue what he was getting into until he got in there. That's what I think so many Americans miss. The candidates spend thousands of hours telling us what it should be like and by golly when they are in the big chair - they'll make it happen. Then it's into the rabbit whole and an entirely different picture for Alice. I seriously expect that history, as usual, will eventually provide some clarity to the Bush years. I am very concered about Constitutional impact of some of the things that he ordered and did. I wish I knew more. I will have to read about it from the actual point, not the thoughts of some talking head.

More on American "news" outlets later. They need to change - but I will say that they are following the pattern initiated in the 18th Century. Probably earlier...but what do I know?
